Indoor Training - Does it help? Published on Mon 09/28/2009 | 6 total comments
Well, what is YOUR favorite method of indoor training? After all, we are in the middle of the Fall season and the Winter leagues are already selling out. Are you the type that needs to play games or are you the type that builds your skills? Do you need both? ZenMaster says that the winter months are about building technical skills and keeping your game from going stale. So what is the recipe for good skills development? How about a combination of indoor technical skills training in the racquetball courts, one-v-one and two-v-two in tight spaces, and Futsal? How about a little strength and speed work on the side to increase your playing radius? This is the kind of program that will build your technique as well as your quickness, strength, and confidence on the ball. I have seen many players go from good to "very good" through this type of regimen. It offers variety, fun, and a view into how some of the Brazilian players build their skills. After all, players like Robinho, Kaka, and Ronaldinho are not half bad. What say you? What do you do in the Winter to build your skills?

| | I think it's beneficial to play games at the Max; great for
fitness; keeps the players thinking tactics. Let's keep
them in great shape over the winter and have some fun. Kids
always love playing games!!

| | Yes, I do see that kids love the MAX (an indoor facility
with 40 - 60 yard fields for others here on the blog). I am
more the futsal advocate since I like to see the tight
technical skills develop in the offseason. Also, I am not
sure that the competition is leveled off correctly (hard to
do with so many teams from different NISL and IWSL
divisions) so that there are some blow-outs. Overall, as
long as they are playing and having fun, I guess it is good.
I wish there were a better offside rule and that the goals
could be a proper size for each age group but that is very
hard to do. John Neistrom really does a great marketing job
on all of this and attracts a lot of teams.

| | I think from a training perspective it is important to
change it up. Even the most seasoned athletes take a break
from their craft and cross train. Futsol, skill , strength
and agility training does just that. While playing full
sided games once a week in the off season has some value, in
the end it is still the, same old, same old. I applaud the
clubs approach to off season training. Futsol, builds speed
on the ball and stretches our players to think and react
faster in the heat of competition. I'm not sure full sided
game play in the off season stretches the players enough to
accomplish that............
